Darkness

A sudden jolt that awakens me,

In the darkness of the peaceful night,

I search around to find the source,

Then I realise the light is gone,

Is it panic I feel or a sense of loss?

That I'm all alone in this tempest time,

To find the power to go back to sleep,

Or lay awake with imaginary foes,

It's a tough spot when the darkness speaks up,

All sorts of sounds and laughter boom,

So I clutch the blankets more,

And wish for dawn in my whirlwind mind.
